Hi All,

I hope you have all had a really good summer and are looking forward to the start of the badminton season.

I am writing as Midland Convenor to let you know of some important changes that are happening within BadmintonScotland.

We now have a new CEO who is implementing a whole new regime and focusing on player participation across all levels. He is trying to encourage more badminton clubs to affiliate and get involved in regional events. If you have any ideas or suggestions that Badminton Scotland could try to encourage your club to affiliate it would be great to hear it. Would cheaper shuttles be an incentive to your club for example? As convenor it would be great if we could get as many clubs within the Midland area to affiliate. Also if you are involved with a Junior Club there is the new Shuttlemark accreditation scheme. There is lots of information on the website about this or the Regional Development Officer for Tayside and Fife would be more than happy to help, her contact details are jane@badmintonscotland.org.uk.

As usual we are running a Senior Open Tournament and 4 Age Group Open Tournaments throughout the season.

It would be great to see some of you come along to support these events and watch some of the top players in action.

Dunfermline Senior Open 6^th, 7^th, 8^th December at the Carnegie Leisure Centre

U13/U17 Junior event 18^th 19^th January 2020 at the North Inch Community Campus in Perth

 U15/U19 Junior event 21^st 22^nd March 2020 at the North Inch Community Campus in Perth

I have also attached a list of dates of local events of ladders and tournament that you or your club members might be interested in. Ladders are a great way to play against some like-minded people at a similar level and are also very social.

We are also very fortunate to have Bruce Flockhart, level 3 UKCC qualified coach, who runs coaching sessions for junior players as well as mentoring other coaches to allow them to develop and progress with their coaching qualifications. There are several coaching courses in the Midland area throughout the season.
