Patrick part of squad for World Champs

Kinross Commonwealth Games player Patrick MacHugh is among the quartet of players BadmintonScotland has named for the TOTAL BWF World Championships taking in Jakarta, Japan from 10-16 August.

He will join Kieran Merrilees, and Commonwealth Silver Medalist Kirsty Gilmour, alongwith doubles partner Martin Campbell.

The Scots will be keen to improve on their 1st round exits in last year’s World Championships in Copenhagen.

In the Men’s Doubles Yonex Scottish National champions Martin and Patrick will need to be in top form when they face Guatemalan pair Solis Jonathan and Rodolfo Ramirez. The young Scots are up to No. 78 in the world but their opponents are 20 places higher. The winners will face 12th seeds Gi Jung Kim and Kim Sa Rang of Korea.

More than 300 players, from all over the world, are likely to compete at these 22nd World Championships, being held in Jarakta’s 9000 seater Istora Senayan stadium. This will be the last World champs before Glasgow’s Emirate’s Arena hosts the 2017 World Champs as there is no World Champs in Olympic year.

Good Luck Patrick!
