Perth & District Badminton Association Season 2018/19
We’ve now reached the end of the 2018/19 competitive season for Perth & District Badminton Association, and we can look back at another successful season.
Twelve teams participated in the Campus Sports Perth & District Badminton League this season and we were particularly delighted to welcome a team from Blairgowrie Badminton Club to the league. The league was split into two divisions of six teams. In Division 1, Perth 20 retained its league title and was undefeated in its matches. In Division 2, Taybank, which was relegated from Division 1 in the previous season, won all of its matches and looks forward to returning to Division 1 in 2019/20. The final league tables can be viewed at http://perthbadminton.org.uk/league-tables/
The handicapped cup tournaments, sponsored by Campus Sports, saw some very competitive matches. In the Campus Cup, Forgandenny was the winner with Crieff finishing as runner up. While in the Campus Trophy, it was Bankfoot who lifted the trophy with Glenearn C runner up.
In November, members from the Association supported the Perth & Kinross Secondary Schools Badminton Championships at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth. Over 180 kids entered from various schools throughout the area.
We held our annual Mixed Draw competition in December. Twelve couples took part and the winners were Keith Alexander (Taybank) and Jill Taylor (Forgandenny), who beat David Morrison (Forgandenny) and Kirsten Lindsey (Glenearn) in the final.
In February, we once again hosted the Scottish National Badminton Championships at Bell’s Sports Centre. Amongst the top players competing from across Scotland, we were delighted to see Cameron Orchard and Abbie Brooks from the Perth & District area.
In March, over 70 kids took part in the Association’s Annual Junior Tournament, also at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth. Thank you to our tournament sponsor, Mercure Perth Hotel, and also to Perth Trophy Shop who provided and engraved the trophies.
Also in March, the Midland Junior (U17) Inter-area competition took place at Perth College UHI Sport and Fitness. Congratulations to the Perth Junior Badminton Coaching Club team, who triumphed winning all 3 of its matches.
I would like to thank Campus Sports, Mercure Hotel Perth and the Perth Trophy Shop for their continued support this season.
I would also like to thank the Association’s officers, coaches and committee members for all their hard work and commitment throughout the season. All of the aforementioned events were made possible with their support. Similarly, I thank all those who continue to work hard to make our local clubs a success.
We would be delighted to welcome new clubs to our Association. Having welcomed Blairgowrie into the league this season, it would be great to see more new teams enter next season. Here’s to another successful season in 2019/20.
